WRC 2011 - Latvala’s arctic roll means no Arctic Rally for Ford

Ford has been forced to abandon the planned rally debut of its Fiesta RS World Rally Car at the Arctic Lapland Rally after Jari-Matti Latvala crashed the team's event car in Sweden at the weekend.

Latvala and co-driver Miikka Anttila were lucky to escape uninjured from a sixth-gear, 150kph roll which happened on the second day of the team's winter test.
Latvala explained the accident happened over a sixth gear crest. "It was my error," he admitted. "I tried to use the snow banks to slow the car, but it rolled in the road before vaulting the snow banks and hitting some trees. The Fiesta RS WRC stood up to the impact remarkably well and Miikka and I escaped unhurt. The fact that the team can repair it and we can continue to test this week shows just how strong it is."
Latvala and the team’s lead driver Mikko Hirvonen were scheduled to drive a leg each in Finland’s Arctic rally (28 - 29 January) as the final part of the squad's pre-season test programme before next month's opening round of the FIA World Rally Championship in Sweden.
The team had planned to use its Sweden test car for the rally but the amount of damage it sustained in the crash has forced a change of plan. Instead the car will now remain at the test location to finalise preparations for Rally Sweden.
"We will repair the damage to the car before continuing our testing in Sweden later this week," explained Ford Abu Dhabi team director Malcolm Wilson. "We're confident we can complete all our scheduled test work this week, but unfortunately we need to sacrifice our appearance at the Arctic Lapland Rally to do that.
"I'm sorry for all the fans there who were looking forward to seeing Mikko and Jari-Matti in action in the Fiesta RS WRC, but completing our work in Sweden is the best option to ensure our preparations are completed for Rally Sweden," added Wilson.

WRC 2011 : Quinn & Hirvonen unveil team Fiesta in Birmingham

WRC 2011: Petter Solberg will drive a Citroen DS3, as a privatteer.

Even the end of the year was tricky for Petter Solberg as he didn´t have the certainty to start this year´s season with a new car. Things have come around once more for him. Citroen was reluctant to give a DS3 to a private team in the first year so they would give the advantage to others ouside te factory team. But after an agreement has been reached. Ken Rees, who is Petter Solberg Racing Team ´s Manager has confirmed that Citroen Racing will prepare and maintain Solberg’s DS3 from its base in the outskirts of Paris, the car will be run from the Petter Solberg World Rally Team service area on all 13 rounds of the WRC with management and logistical support from Rees and his team, and mechanics from Citroen Racing in France.

Petter will still be a private entrant and will still be relying on sponsors to get the show going. We still haven’t got a full budget but at least we have the bonus of having a current-specification car this year. Rees said he was not sure when Solberg would sample the new-for-2011 DS3 WRC for the first time but insisted that the Norwegian’s lack of experience in the machine wouldn’t hold him back for mounting a world title challenge in 2011 alongside Northern Irish co-driver Chris Patterson.

One of the most fabulous and iconic cars is the Batmobile. It was made famous in the comic book, then TV show and Movies. The most recognized to me, is the 1966 version for the TV show.

But the car has a long history of versions and changes, here is the history of this car in images. Click the link to see it. Enjoy!
