Aguascalientes, October 27th. The 23th edition of La Carrera Panamericana had a small shift after the Mexican Michel Jourdain was confirmed winner of the fifth stage that took place last Tuesday between Morelia and Guadalajara, but the Finnish Harri Rovanpera put everything back in order after winning today in the sixth stage and penultimate day of hostilities, disputed from Guadalajara to the central square in Aguascalientes.

After an exhaustive counting, the organization committee determined that was Jourdain, and not Rovanpera the winner of Tuesday’s stage, that made the competition tighter than it was, even before, defined by a difference of less than a minute.

However, Harri Rovanpera, in the Studebaker number 140, came back to the triumph this Wednesday in the penultimate stage, disputed over 381.20 kilometers, from which 60.160 were timed, to get to the three victories in the career and to consolidate himself as absolut leader.

Teaming with his compatriot Jouni Narhi, the ex-pilot from the World Rally Championship, will try to cover without setback the seventh and last stage, taking place on Thursday between Aguascalientes and Zacatecas, in order to get the title of La Panamericana in just his first atempt.

Rovanpera crossed in the honor place the arch installed in la Plaza de Armas on the Aguascalientes capital, just before the Oldsmobile of the American Doug Mockett and the Mexican Angélica Fuentes, who have been getting up in the absolut chart after an unfortunate starting in the career, even though today they got out the road in the first speed.

In the third place arrived the Pimentel brothers Alejandro and Mauricio, who now got their first podium. They unoficially achieved the podium last Tuesday, however after the final calculations they lost that position. Even though, they already have the first trophy for the Farmacias Gl’s car.

The panamerican caravan of aproximately 90 cars that are still in the race was able to have some more sleep than they were used to, considering that the stage started at the 10:00 hours from the Plaza Andares in Guadalajara, to cover five speed stages through the roads of Tepatitlán, Yahuica, Mexticacan, Cañadas de Obregón and Villa Hidalgo (in Aguascalientes), and one special in the speedway of this capital.

“It was a very good day for us. Michel Jourdain has been a Nascar pilot and knows very well how to drive in a speedway, for me it was the first time in the oval and it was very interesting”, explained Rovanpera about his experience in the Aguascalientes speedway.

This Thursday, the 23th edition of La Carrera Panamericana is going to complete its long journey of about 3 thousand 200 total kilometers, after disputing the seventh and last stage between Aguascalientes and Zacatecas, to cover 296.730 kilometers, from which 77.600 are going to be timed, and will define the 2010 champion.
